GoodReads: WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

I have a feeling this is one of those book that people either really enjoy or dislike immediately.  I believe I fall into the enjoying category for sure, I have to say the reason why is because it has been a while since a book caught me completely by surprise. And when I say that i’m not exaggerating, I mena it, since page one and the introduction I was wondering about the next scheme or the next hilarious piece of dialog and every time Jana Aston delivered.

The story follows Everly (Beverly is her real name) in her quest to make the love of her life realize that she is the perfect woman for him. she has it all figure out and her plans are foolproof, for the most part. She usually drags along her best friend Chloe and everything is met with a great defiance. But things take a weird turn when she meets the one person who is not even shocked by her but encourages her instead. Making her question if her true purpose is as she imagined. It goes long the lines of twisting up her “happily ever after” and punch you in the face with something different.

Any man worthy of you would work for it, Everly. Not sit by passively while you did all”

The fact that Everly was such a dinamite was the thing that kept the whole thing interesting and also the reason some people might not like this book. She is loud, can be obnoxious, self centered (Some times) nosey, delusional, bossy and pretty much lives on dream land. There is not a once of sense going through her head. But that recklessness was what made it super refreshing. She didn’t cry over things when they didn’t happen, she moved on and became the person she wanted to be.she had a plan but that didn’t stop her from having the best life she could have. she socialized  she flirted and she was so confident of herself that it was just the cherrie on top. and she took things she wanted while also working her ass off. and the fact that they place her with that male character took it over the edge.

Sparks do not fly. Chills do not run through my body. I do not suddenly recognize this man as my soulmate based on a handshake. Such bullshit. His hand is nice though. Firm, large. His thumb caresses the back of my hand and fine, that touch alone is enough to make me recognize that he’s probably good in bed. But that’s it.”

This is a fun read but I have to warn you that this book is not one  of those books where there will be tears from how much the story changed you. But it’s a book that makes you see that in life we have to take the opportunities that present to us and forget about the ideal life we want, we just have to enjoy what we have. I felt like I was on a sugar and Redbull high throughout this whole story and i thank Everly for it. and for those super sexy intense scenes that oh my lord (Where’s the fan!)

Story short, read it if you like hype and delusional characters who will make you laugh and see life in a deferent light.

GoodReads summary  😀

I don’t know if you’re many familiar with R L Mathewson’s books but if you don’t here is what you should know about them. She is the author of the Neighbors from hell series and there are already 7 books out (Book 1  review), A christmas from hell is that seventh one and they are super funny and kind of sexy.

In a christmas from hell we have Duncan, one half of theBradford twins. He is supposed to be the nice one, the reliable, the one everyone can count on and he likes it that way. He likes to think of himself as a hero, which is why he works as a firefighter. But all that heroism goes down the drain when Necie moves in next door with her grandfather and is constantly “Unintentionally ” getting in his way and sending him to the hospital.

All she wants is to help her grandfather and run her part of the family bakery after quitting her old job and deciding that it was for the best. But she didn’t count on meeting super hot Duncan Bradford. Whom she is always hurting and is totally “in love” with him.

So as far as NFH novels go, I can’t say that it was my favorite. Did I enjoy it? yes I did. Because the thing with the NFH is that you can sort know what to expect, which depending on your taste can be good or bad. They are, like I just said, expected, you buy this book and if you read the other ones you know you’ll get your doses of Bradford alpha male moves, sweet moments, fights, ban restaurants and food. Tons of foods. and usually very cute moments between the main character. This book is funny and entertaining but the reason I down graded my rating from a 4 to 3 was because I felt this book dragged on after the second half. I don know if its because I’m used to her previous fast paced, hilarious books but this one for me was kind of… slow. But equally funny.

Duncan and Necie were super cute and I really liked her and made me want to bake cupcakes. ASAP. And my love for firefighters has grown once again. aww, so many memories ah

So, the question is,Would I recommend this book? yes. But read the other once first so you’re set to embark into the Bradford weirdly food obsessed books.

My Spring TBR |Top Ten Tuesday

Hey you people.

As is usual I am a big fan of lists. Do I follow those lists? eh, that’s a tricky question. Because I am usually making list in life; Grocery (Even if I’m not the one buying them), Favorite songs, What I’ll eat or even about things I plan to buy in the future. because of that I tend to know what I want but it ALWAYS changes, ALWAYS.

Now when it comes to book, I’m the same. I make list of books that I’ve read, books that I’ll read but I hardly ever end up reading them when I say I want to because I’m huge mood reader, something you might already know if you have read any of my previous posts. so…i spaced out…. now I have no idea where I’m going with the list thing to be honest, other than to mention that those lists made this the easiest TTT I’ve ever participated in.

So here are the books wasnt to read this spring. will I read them? who knows, because I don’t.

Journey of a 22 year old into 2016?

I’ve yet to put into perspective the things I learned in 2015. It has take me a while, hence this post almost in February. I haven’t taken the time to stop. to stop and remember all the things that at the time where hardship, all the things that made me cry, that made me laugh, that made me love. I have been scared to really take a moment to appreciate them for what they are.
           Blessings.
I’ve been scared to get hurt by my decisions and dreams.
Ive been ashamed to feel ashamed for some of the things I’ve done.
It was an interesting year. For sure.
It wasn’t “exciting” in a big way, with the exception of finishing college I can’t say I did great things. I didn’t travel, I didn’t party, I didn’t have multiple heartbreaks, I didn’t finished that book that I wanted,I didn’t enjoyed the beach as much as I could’ve, I didn’t count my blessings, I didn’t… my year was full of I didn’t to be complete honest.
Its a hard moment when you realize that, but I choose to see it for what it is, a good thing. Because as much as I didn’t do much of the things I meant to do last year, it was such a special year for me and I wouldn’t wish away. At all.
2015 was a year of firsts. The year of finally looking into my life and realizing that changes needed to happen. And like people say, sometimes you really need to touch rock to sometimes acknowledge that, it took my own body telling me it couldn’t take it anymore to finally opening these eyes. I envy the people who realize and accept and confront their mistakes. I envy those who never had to suffer before making a change. but, and there is always a but, I’m glad I’m not one of those because I, apparently, am one that likes to experience mistakes first hand.

If there is something I learned in 2015 is that sometimes struggles pay off. On this year I found things in myself that I never knew existed. I got to know and spend time with my thoughts, something I’ve avoided like the plagued since beginning college. but it was time.
Time to face the demons and move forward.
Time to leave the internet and step outside.
Time to say no to that person who came back into my life over and over to pull me down.
Time to open up my self to that other person who saw goodness in me.
Time to realize that friends are fleeting.
To know that family is the most important and that mom is still right ( Painfully so ).
To know that stepping outside your comfort zone is ideal

This may sound extremely idiotic and\or childish to some, but this could’ve been the year I really saw me for who I’ve become. An almost adult who has no clue what the big world is. The lessons and mistakes will be with me forever and I can only hope that the love and pain of this year will move me into this 2016 with power to compensate. To achieve and enjoy and specially to be happy in my own skin.

This thing, life, is a journey; a chapter in the grad scheme of things and that chapter was just that, just one tiny of a chapter that cannot be re-written but was the world setting for a great adventure. And i’ ll make a goddamn fun adventure out of it.

Have any of you experience anything similar? Taken 2016 by the horns and made it point to enjoy it?

Can their love survive this world of stories and secrets?

My Review

I’m not going to go into a lot of detail here, but i will start by saying that you should read this book. As soon as possible. after saying that and hoping there is no mistaken i have to say that I have no words for this beauty of a book. This is the first book in the new series by renee Ahdieh and it was inspired by the book A thousand and one nights, making it one of the most anticipated books of 2015. If i’m not mistaken the series is actually a dueology. I hope it is because I’m dying for my happy ending.

Every single part of it was done flawlessly. The book was so rich in dialog , descriptions, meanings, intrigue that it was hard to actually put the book down. The story line is perfect, it was subtle how each of the characters where evolving, its complex , it’s fun. The writing style is precious, yes precious. between the mix of the Arabs terms and the elements of fantasy  it so unique and just plain cool even if at times it could be a bit confusing.

“When she wound her fingers in his hair to draw her body against his, he stilled for breath, and she knew, as he knew, that they were lost. Lost forever. In this kiss. This kiss that would change everything.”

the characters where phenomenal. lets take Shahrzad, she started as this vengeful creature but then she started to realize there maybe there could be more to the story. She realize how much her presence changed everything in the castle and how ones feelings can suddenly over take us. and Khalid, slowly but surely made it into my heart with his amber eyes and caring ways, he is still sort of a mystery to me though but that doesn’t lessens my love for him.

The book is filled with romance and a romance junky I couldn’t have asked for more, but there are elements of fantasy that where very passive until the end that is, leading us to big cliffhanger and i have to say a little bit of broken heart.

This is my favorite quote guys:

What are you doing to me, you plague of a girl?” he whispered.
“If I’m a plague, then you should keep your distance, unless you plan on being destroyed.” The weapons still in her grasp, she shoved against his chest.
“No.” His hands dropped to her waist. “Destroy me.”

When Parker Blanton meets Ben Olsen during her freshman year of college, the connection is immediate—and platonic. Six years later, they’re still best friends, sharing an apartment in Portland’s trendy Northwest District as they happily settle into adult life. But when Parker’s boyfriend dumps her out of the blue, she starts to wonder about Ben’s no-strings-attached approach to dating. The trouble is, even with Ben as her wingman, Parker can’t seem to get the hang of casual sex—until she tries it with him.

The arrangement works perfectly . . . at first. The sex is mind-blowing, and their friendship remains as solid as ever, without any of the usual messy romantic entanglements. But when Parker’s ex decides he wants her back, Ben is shocked by a fierce stab of possessiveness. And when Ben starts seeing a girl from work, Parker finds herself plagued by unfamiliar jealousy. With their friendship on the rocks for the first time, Parker and Ben face an alarming truth: Maybe they can’t go back. And maybe, deep down, they never want to.

My review

Can boys and girls be only friend? That a question as old as time. And one that it’s still no answer to.

Well, Parker and Ben are the definition of a dream. THEY can. They’ve been best friends since the moment that met their first day in college and even after as College grads living the dream. and loving together. as BFFs do right?. everything is perfect, Parker has a boyfriend she “loves” and who doesn’t ask for much. While Ben is having fun playing his hand at everything that looks at him. they’ve had their rules straight, no one will ever mess with their friendship. EVER.

Until one day Parker’s Bf decides he wants something else and she is more embarrassed than hurt that he left her. so she enlist Ben and Lori, (friend of hers and a girl who has a huge crush on Ben) as her wingmen. but Parker realizes that what she needs is to enjoy her life , free herself. With someone she knows. ‘ where Ben comes in. He has always been there, he makes her life, he enjoys her company and their Adults. So with rules they make they set up this experiment that can end when either them wants, no hard feeling. But there are heart feelings.

Specially when been starts dating a new girl and Parker’s makes a decision that breaks his heart.

I liked this book. It was super fasted paced, the writing style was fun and flowy. I enjoyed the 2 people POV as we got to see where each of the character stood with the situation. It was your typical BFF’s falling in love but not so much. They ARE best friends. They REALLY didn’t see each other as a potential partner. they loved each other but they weren’t in love. that;s what I loved. I loved the fact that everything caughed them off guard.

As a character though, I found Parker to be very annoying. I thought she played with everyone’s emotions because she didn’t know her own. And I felt as if Ben’s character was hugely underdeveloped. He could have been great but there was so much we didn’t know, or how he felt about his parents, who apart from random thoughts from Ben played a huge part but we didn’t exactly see.

The story was cute. Sexual and very entertaining. I enjoyed watching these two work out their issues and come out strong.

I liked it ALOT. Ben was super sweet.

He doesn’t believe in the kind of fairy tale ending Holly longs for—but he can’t deny that her stubborn optimism has found its way into his heart…

My Review:

I don’t think I have much to say about this book. It’s a cute adult romance. Set in a small town. I felt the story was very rush, I think the author tried to incorporate a lot of external elements and it ended up not working very nicely. I felt as if forcing my self to read and I did find myself skipping lots of pages because there just wasn’t a lot to get my attention.

I liked the characters though, I found Holly to be very well written but Dan wasn’t my favorite he was a massive jerk from page 1 and then suddenly had a change of heart after a while? even then he was a jerk. and believe me I’m all about loving a-hole in books he was just not likable. That’s the thing that made me not enjoy it. There was just no chemistry to me in this book.

On the other hand I loved Ruby and all the old ladies. I loved his brothers and i found Ella’s characters to be… Idk.

Over all it was cute. I wouldn’t really read it again but I did feel there was lot more potential underneath that wasn’t handled properly. Only if the things would have slow down and have each situation have and ending not just rush things to be fixed.

As I always say, Don’t knock it till you try it. You might love it!

And its super cheap.<3

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “Duffy,” she throws her Coke in his face.

But things aren’t so great at home right now. Desperate for a distraction, Bianca ends up kissing Wesley. And likes it. Eager for escape, she throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with Wesley.

Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out that Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.

Review:

No matter where you go or what you do to distract yourself, reality catches up with you eventually.”

To start of I have to say that I picked this book because I pulled it out of my TBR jar which I’m super committed with at the moment, not because i was interested in reading it. I’ve never read anything by the author and I had to idea what the books was really going to be about. I’ve had it on my EReader for more than a year, and it was one of those books that I thought were Over hyped. Seriously Over hyped. Also, there has been so many Mixed reviews about it that I have to confess I was super scared about reading it even when I don’t like to be persuaded by other reviews. Hence why it’s been on my shelve for so long.

Initially I planned to start reading it though-out the whole month. one chapter here , another one there. But when I read the first chapter I was enchanted. I’m not going to lie and say otherwise. I really read this book in one sitting today. And I loved it. The thing that really pulled me in is that this book is super entertaining, From page one we are pulled into Bianca’s world and her perspective on things. Is super fast paced which is in my opinion what makes it so great, because in no moment I felt it dragged or forced in any way (except for one scene with her dad, that it just came out of nowhere but I understand that in order for the story to move forward something needed to happen but still not my favorite). On the contrary, I found the story line and the writing style to flow extremely well.

Can we talk about the characters please? I started the book thinking that I was going to read about some poor girl who is super sad when she hears about being the DUFF, by Wesley no less. but oh no. Bianca was just a breath of fresh air, in her cynical, weird, sarcastic way she deal with it even when it bother her. Even when it hurt and she was far from perfect. She bottle things up, she was judgmental, she didn’t like change so much either. But she was also so real and true to herself that she was the reason I kept on  going.

And Wesley. I felt that even though he was the male protagonist, to me was just like a background character. He was there as a nice fixture , very nice, but I liked that the story didn’t center around him. Okay, I did love him and he was super hot and in his way charming and apart from all that he was the catalysis of the whole book. But he was also loyal and caring. But still the story center a lot more around Bianca than him. Still, I loved him.

The banter between Bianca and Wesley was hilarious. They really got into each-others nerves but there was an undeniable chemistry between them that was very sweet yet sexy.

Your sense of humor needs some work, then,’ Wesley suggested. ‘Most girls find my jokes charming.

Those girls must have IQs low enough to trip over.

And Jessica and Casey were adorable. They are Bianca’s BFF and they were supportive, funny and just adorable. Bianca’s  and Wesley’s parents on the other side suffered from the YA parent syndrome, according to Epic READS, they are the true definition of that; Clueless, absent and hurtful and violent in occasion.

On the story line character grow I found that it was very good. At the beginning the story is light and fluffy but as the story progress and becomes darker and complex the character of Bianca and Wesley become also more complex and more layers are shown. It was excellent on that part. I wasn’t expecting anything of what happened, I truly thought I was going to read another sweet Ya romance novel but this one was very different, it deal A LOT with sex and family drama. It dealed with the decision and coping and taking responsibility for what others do.,

I would totally recommend the book, the movie….I haven’t watch but it looks extremely different from the books. I don’t know why they do that. But really good book!

Wesley Rush doesn’t chase girls, but I’m chasing you.

Have you guys read the book?!

Have a great night guys!
