GoodReads: WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

So I finished this book and I’ve wonder why? not in the sense of not liking it but in the sense of why didn’t I read this years ago.

I’m sure all of you have either read or seen this book by Laini Taylor, it’s the first book on a trilogy ( Don’t vote me on that) and it was published years ago. I’ve gone time and time again to the books store and seen it but to b honest Ive always felt little intimidated by the cover. I’t so beautiful and i felt as if I wasn’t prepared, but a week ago I decided that it was time and I’m glad I did.

The story is around a girl name Karou who lives in Prague. She’s 17 years old and an art student at an art academy but she also lives a life of mystery. She doesn’t remember anything of her past, she has no recollection of her parents or he life as a little kid all she remembers is Brimstone, who is not exactly human… far from it really, but even after years of living with and seeing their friends she knows there is a lot she doesn’t know about him and his life in the shadows or the dangerous missions he sends her into , he still the only family she knows and she loves him.

Her two worlds are always colliding, between her wanting to be and do things with her best friend but at the same time knowing she can exactly share her life with the people around her and follow her duty.

Magical hand prints are appearing into portal that connect her to Brimstone all around the world and is not until caos reigns that she starts to uncover what really is going on behind those door. And how Akive, the boy who is following her played apart in who she is.

I was a little thrown off with some of the descriptions of the characters just because it was so different from any angel/demon story I’ve ever read,(or my lack if the really) but surprise in a good way. I will say the encounters between Karou and Akive where what I looked forward the most. They both had a solid background story an edit was just so interesting to me to read about them.

Now, for the part i didn’t like so much. I didn’t really ilk how the flashbacks where so long, and descriptive. I do know that without them we wouldn’t have any back\ground or information and that they are necessary but if they would’ve been little shorter of more spread out between past and present I would  have enjoyed it more. but the whole one present chapter and 5 in the past at the end i felt was too much. still just a minor thing really when compared to everything else that happened here.

All in al I give this book a 4 stars. i enjoyed the characters, the interaction and just the whole execution of the idea. Beautiful throughout. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to spice things up a bit. and I can’t wait to read the other two books in the series.

HAVE YOU GUYS READ IT? if so tell me what you though of it guys.

Goodreads Summary

I’ve been a major fan of Colleen Hoover ever since I picked up Slammed years ago. But even as a fan her book have been causing this slight heartache as I read them that slowly drive me crazy but make fall in love with each and everyone of her books. There was no exception with November 9 , I realized that as I played in bed either giggling like a school girl, laughing out loud, signing at every cute thing or crying my eyes out.

“Whoever said the truth hurts was being an optimist. The truth is an excruciatingly son of a bitch”

The book doesn’t fail to pull at  your heart and throwing you around. It builds up and up and up and you see that there is something coming (Because with COHO there’s always something coming )and whatever you have imagine is going to happen? Doesn’t happen because she can either trow you for a huge loop  and destroy your heart or flip the tables and make you love life once more.

“I Thought i was tougher than a word”

I’m pretty sure that is the reason we keep coming back tot her books. This contemporary love story that is  unique and even through the bizarre plot line you just keep coming back for more. Because for some reason even if the story is not realistic at all (or many be who knows) she makes us believe, that as readers, this could happen and that you will find you Ben “The Writer ” at the next cafe.

“I think she expected em to let her go without a fight, but she’s not the kind of girl you choose your battles for. She’s the kind of girl you fight to death for”

Fallon and Ben are such a good characters, they are relatable, they are confused and raw but also very  dreamy in that way only teenage can be sometimes (well, maybe we all  can be) The story was for hard on them and some how after all they went through they still managed to pull through and grow up and specially accept what happened. They learned from what happened and they tried to live they’re life.

“Love should be between two people, and if it isn’t, I’d rather bow out than take part in the race”

Now is this my favorite CoHo Book, I can’t say that. But it was amazing. Once more she has done it and I couldn’t be happier that I finally made myself go through the pain to receive the awesome reward at the end. The fact that it was set up on one specific day each year for that amount of time was so much fun to read and to be honest made the book extremely fast paced, which I enjoyed a lot. Mix that with the amazing writing and you get that an amazing result.

A Christmas from hell By RL Mathewson| Another food story.

Rating: ★★★ (3 OUT OF 5)

GoodReads summary  😀

I don’t know if you’re many familiar with R L Mathewson’s books but if you don’t here is what you should know about them. She is the author of the Neighbors from hell series and there are already 7 books out (Book 1  review), A christmas from hell is that seventh one and they are super funny and kind of sexy.

In a christmas from hell we have Duncan, one half of theBradford twins. He is supposed to be the nice one, the reliable, the one everyone can count on and he likes it that way. He likes to think of himself as a hero, which is why he works as a firefighter. But all that heroism goes down the drain when Necie moves in next door with her grandfather and is constantly “Unintentionally ” getting in his way and sending him to the hospital.

All she wants is to help her grandfather and run her part of the family bakery after quitting her old job and deciding that it was for the best. But she didn’t count on meeting super hot Duncan Bradford. Whom she is always hurting and is totally “in love” with him.

So as far as NFH novels go, I can’t say that it was my favorite. Did I enjoy it? yes I did. Because the thing with the NFH is that you can sort know what to expect, which depending on your taste can be good or bad. They are, like I just said, expected, you buy this book and if you read the other ones you know you’ll get your doses of Bradford alpha male moves, sweet moments, fights, ban restaurants and food. Tons of foods. and usually very cute moments between the main character. This book is funny and entertaining but the reason I down graded my rating from a 4 to 3 was because I felt this book dragged on after the second half. I don know if its because I’m used to her previous fast paced, hilarious books but this one for me was kind of… slow. But equally funny.

Duncan and Necie were super cute and I really liked her and made me want to bake cupcakes. ASAP. And my love for firefighters has grown once again. aww, so many memories ah

So, the question is,Would I recommend this book? yes. But read the other once first so you’re set to embark into the Bradford weirdly food obsessed books.

Cinder By Marissa Meyer| Should you read it?

IMG_0165

Goodreads Link this has all the info to the book. Check it out! 🙂

Here it is. Recently , after months and years of seeing this book all over book stores and internet , I decided to pick up Cinder by Marissa Meyer. Through the years I’ve always thought this book was seriously overhyped by everyone who read it, and that (sadly) is the reason why I never read it. Until now.

My brain used to say “EVERYONE is reading this. Don’t be like the rest” and I listened. But this past Sunday morning something happened. While browsing through my amazon prime book thingy (Can’t remember the name really) I stumbled upon this book once again. And my brain NOW said “It’s time” Thank you brain.

Basically this are the reason why everyone should read this book and the things I liked and disliked and what I’m hoping for the rest of The Lunar chronicle series, which I’m very excited for.

  1. If you’re into fantasy, dystopian and cyborgeshingg books you’re in for a treat (I seriously have no idea what category is this placed under to be honest) BECAUSE this is a ix of that and more.
  2. If you like Fairytale re-tellings with awesome twists what are you waiting for? Read it. because this is what this is. A retelling. an awesome one at that.
  3. If you love to pretty much despise the mean guy  (or girls!?) and want to reach into the story and pull the trigger yourself or make a hoover have a crash? This is for you
  4. If you love a prince? Well, Kai is good so far. ahah
  5. If you love awesome and amazing Side-kicks such as Iko. You’ll just love her and your heart will melt Like my does whenever I think of her (Pun untended here *Wink, wink*)
  6. If you love cliffhangers that are not so bad because the next book promises to be amazing? Yup this is the one.

So if you said yes or nodded your head to any of these go ahead and read it and if you have already read it , you might as well read it again. Because…Just because. The thing that I liked the most was how it was so full of action, which I was not expecting. The main characters didn’t make annoying decisions that made me want to bang my head on a wall (except for one that is) in fact Cinder is probably the coolest Thing ever.

I like how all the characters where super funny and sarcastic I also enjoyed that romance was a mayor element of the story but it was not instalove, in fact I’m pretty sure the love is still not there taking a back sit while the main plot was taking place since the begining. ahah.

My thoughts,

So, here’s all I have and will say about this short story. It’s short, way too short. I read it in about 15 minutes. But let me tell you this too,It took me back to the amazing world of the Wrath and the dawn. It just gave me enough of an inside to his head to keep me just remembering how awesome he is 🙂

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “Duffy,” she throws her Coke in his face.

But things aren’t so great at home right now. Desperate for a distraction, Bianca ends up kissing Wesley. And likes it. Eager for escape, she throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with Wesley.

Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out that Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.

Review:

No matter where you go or what you do to distract yourself, reality catches up with you eventually.”

To start of I have to say that I picked this book because I pulled it out of my TBR jar which I’m super committed with at the moment, not because i was interested in reading it. I’ve never read anything by the author and I had to idea what the books was really going to be about. I’ve had it on my EReader for more than a year, and it was one of those books that I thought were Over hyped. Seriously Over hyped. Also, there has been so many Mixed reviews about it that I have to confess I was super scared about reading it even when I don’t like to be persuaded by other reviews. Hence why it’s been on my shelve for so long.

Initially I planned to start reading it though-out the whole month. one chapter here , another one there. But when I read the first chapter I was enchanted. I’m not going to lie and say otherwise. I really read this book in one sitting today. And I loved it. The thing that really pulled me in is that this book is super entertaining, From page one we are pulled into Bianca’s world and her perspective on things. Is super fast paced which is in my opinion what makes it so great, because in no moment I felt it dragged or forced in any way (except for one scene with her dad, that it just came out of nowhere but I understand that in order for the story to move forward something needed to happen but still not my favorite). On the contrary, I found the story line and the writing style to flow extremely well.

Can we talk about the characters please? I started the book thinking that I was going to read about some poor girl who is super sad when she hears about being the DUFF, by Wesley no less. but oh no. Bianca was just a breath of fresh air, in her cynical, weird, sarcastic way she deal with it even when it bother her. Even when it hurt and she was far from perfect. She bottle things up, she was judgmental, she didn’t like change so much either. But she was also so real and true to herself that she was the reason I kept on  going.

And Wesley. I felt that even though he was the male protagonist, to me was just like a background character. He was there as a nice fixture , very nice, but I liked that the story didn’t center around him. Okay, I did love him and he was super hot and in his way charming and apart from all that he was the catalysis of the whole book. But he was also loyal and caring. But still the story center a lot more around Bianca than him. Still, I loved him.

The banter between Bianca and Wesley was hilarious. They really got into each-others nerves but there was an undeniable chemistry between them that was very sweet yet sexy.

Your sense of humor needs some work, then,’ Wesley suggested. ‘Most girls find my jokes charming.

Those girls must have IQs low enough to trip over.

And Jessica and Casey were adorable. They are Bianca’s BFF and they were supportive, funny and just adorable. Bianca’s  and Wesley’s parents on the other side suffered from the YA parent syndrome, according to Epic READS, they are the true definition of that; Clueless, absent and hurtful and violent in occasion.

On the story line character grow I found that it was very good. At the beginning the story is light and fluffy but as the story progress and becomes darker and complex the character of Bianca and Wesley become also more complex and more layers are shown. It was excellent on that part. I wasn’t expecting anything of what happened, I truly thought I was going to read another sweet Ya romance novel but this one was very different, it deal A LOT with sex and family drama. It dealed with the decision and coping and taking responsibility for what others do.,

I would totally recommend the book, the movie….I haven’t watch but it looks extremely different from the books. I don’t know why they do that. But really good book!

Wesley Rush doesn’t chase girls, but I’m chasing you.

Have you guys read the book?!

Have a great night guys!

Way Back Wednesday (#1) | Night By Elie Wiesel

Flashback time?

Way Back Wednesday is a Book Meme created by April at A Well Read Woman with the aim to write mini book reviews on books read in the past, that left a lasting impression. You know what kind of books I am talking about… The ones that you have read multiple times, and they still bring you nostalgia. Books like these are the reason you enjoy reading.

1617Night is a work by Elie Wiesel about his experience with his father in the Nazi German concentration camps at Auschwitz and Buchenwald in 1944–1945, at the height of the Holocaust and toward the end of the Second World War. In just over 100 pages of sparse and fragmented narrative, Wiesel writes about the death of God and his own increasing disgust with humanity, reflected in the inversion of the father–child relationship as his father declines to a helpless state and Wiesel becomes his resentful teenage caregiver.

Penetrating and powerful, as personal as The Diary Of Anne Frank, Nightawakens the shocking memory of evil at its absolute and carries with it the unforgettable message that this horror must never be allowed to happen again.

My Flashback to Night!

I picked this book because if a book has left a lasting experience in me is this one. I read this my senior year of high school, it wasn’t even in my reading list for that yeah but I remembered it once when I was at B&N and I picked it up right  before winter break. Intense 29 hours followed while I read this book.

I haven’t read it in years, and I know that if I read it now it will be a different experience that what I felt at 17; And that is one of the reasons I don’t want to do it. When I read it although I felt sorrow it gave me a certain surge of empowerment. I’ve been fascinated with everything Nazi and German since I read The Diary of Anne Frank but by the time senior year came I hadn’t read anything that described the treatment and cruelty so perfectly. Saying that , Night was a defined shock for me, it rocked my believes and it made acknowledge that I have power, even when my circumstances are the worst I think they’ll ever be. Even when I made some awful decisions, my resilience is the thing I have to focus on.

That’s how I remembered it. I know some friends who hated it and some loved it. I Loved it and it has a prized spot on my bookshelf

Have you read Night?

Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.
For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover Owen is keeping major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.
The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…

My Thoughts:

As it tends to happen (To me ) with all of colleen Hoovers books I usually read the blurb and I’m exited for it but I know that the blurb is not half as interesting as twisted (in the best way possible) as the book is going to be. That’s exactly what happened to me with confess; I read the blurb, I had my expectations but by the end of the prologue I was blown away yet again what is Colleen Hoover and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

“Are you here to save me?”

I have to be honest here, this book didn’t make me drown in tears like Ugly Love or Slammed, but it did broke my heart to then put together in away that was so subtle, so beautiful that I didn’t notice it when it was happening , it play with my emotions in a way that just Co-Ho can do.

“O.M.G”

We have Auburn Mason Reed, a girl who is fighting to get through her plans, she is alone and already lost one of the persons that meant the most to her in a way that was heartbreaking. All she wants is to work so she can afford the things she had to do in order to feel whole again. That’s when Confess comes into play, when she bumps into this building filled with what appears to be confessions of people and attached to this building is the help sign giving her a job that she didn’t mind loosing by end of the night because it let her to fun , talented, cute Owen Mason Gentry and Owen 🙂 and their connection was Sparkling fired from that moment. What she never suspected was that besides the secrets she kept and the confession he painted he had some of his own that could easily damage the only chance at getting her happily ever after she also didn’t understand how intertwined their past were.

This was a lot more different from the other books by the author, in my review of Ugly Love I mentioned how much more intense it is, grown up. This one goes on that line, but what makes it different is the fact that lots more people are interfering into the characters lives, more like Hopeless, and it was amazing to watch because at no point things felt forced, on the contrary it all flowed, it fit and worked to get the final result.

“She deserves better. So much better.
She deserves me.
If only she knew that.

I have loved all the couple she has written but Owen and Auburn are so special. Their connection man, was just beautiful and innocent and so strong that it was hard at moments to understand. It was romance that’s  for sure but it was not only that. Some books talk about growing up fast and the characters are still not were they need to be, with Owen and Auburn things were not like that, they each had a role , they each acted upon that and even thought some of their decisions and actions were not the best they pulled through and learned.

“I’m scared I’ll never feel this again with anyone else,” I whisper.
He squeezes my hands. “I’m scared you will.”

Something that I loved about the writing style was how much I cared for each and every one of the characters, so I wanted to punch and some I wanted to hug so tight, they way they were written it gave me a sample of how unique they are. Oh and to top it all off the art work guys! IT’S REAL. because writing beautiful books and beautiful characters is not enough we also need real things right? YEAH

“No one deserves you like I do.” …
“No one sees you like I do.” …
“No one understand you the way I do.” …
“No one makes your heart beat like I do.” …
He presses his palm against my heart. “And no one else deserves to be inside you if they can’t get there here first.”

To finish this of I’m just going to say this, Confess is not only a book. It’s an experience.
