My *realistic* Goodreads goals

Seeing as we are almost done with the first month of 2017 I thought it was fitting for me to set my Goodreads goals, And I’m glad I did it because a lot changed from 2016 to this year. Some of the things I plan to do this year is and that I’ve done is to set realistic goals, things that I just know I can accomplish and then once accomplished push a bit further.

Into these goals will go the amount of books I will hopefully read since Last year I read a whooping total of 7 BOOKS! yay (not really) and like mentioned on my friday post () I’m done forcing myself to read more that I’m willing and I’m putting pleasure over quantity.
So I’ve divided my goals in a few parts, bear with me as I try to explain them to myself:

  • Amount: My goal is to read 25 books this year, small goal that if accomplished will be very exciting and if exceed thrilling. This year will hold a lot of changes in my life , grad school and a new state are probably going to put a dent on anything larger than that so that’s my goal on the reading department.
  • Money; I also set a budged for book , and that my friends is a first. I wont spend more that 20-30 dollars a month (If that) on books. I’ve made the bad habit of over spending on books and I realized at the beginning of this year that my room holds more unread books than read and I have to deal with it somehow. and the only way of dealign with it is by reading them right? haha oh logic does great things to my plans when its 3 am and I’m reorganizing my room.
  • Variarity: While doing that deed reorganization i realized that mainly I’ve been reading away too much contemporary and so i decided that branching out are a most. So soon ill be making a list of books from different genres that i just have to read AND RE-READ (I’m looking at you Withering heights!)
  • Writing : Although not a “reading” goal, ill just add it here for accountability. Since I’ll be moving and I won’ t know ANYONE there I figure I will have a time to spare, I will take u writing once more and hopefully put this thoughts into paper.

2017 will be a great year in all aspects of my life (Fingers crossed) and I can’t wait to set this goals on motion. What are your reading goals? Or any goals you will try to reach this year?

Is it MAY TBR time already!? No way!

I might be one of those people who just thinks the year is going by way to fast, I’m sorry if I am and if I’m constantly repeating that, but man, it is going insanely fast. which means that is TBR time. If you know something about me is that I hate TBRs but I’ve come to the realization that I own too many books and I haven’t touch them so for me to get to them before 2017 I have to speed up the process.

I didn’t make a huge list of books because I need to get my hands on A Court Of Mist And Fury (It comes out today!) and some other books I plan to read. But for now I have a small pile that I want to share, if you follow me on IG you might’ve seen it but if not, here it is!

Khalid didn’t know how many more of these dawns he could take. And there was something about this latest girl that piqued his interest. Not only had she volunteered to marry him, but at their wedding ceremony, she had seemed not the least bit afraid. In fact, what he had seen in her eyes was nothing short of pure hatred. She was about to lose her life. Why wasn’t she afraid? Why did she hate him so? He had never before gone to his wife’s chambers before her death at dawn. Tonight would be different.

My thoughts,

So, here’s all I have and will say about this short story. It’s short, way too short. I read it in about 15 minutes. But let me tell you this too,It took me back to the amazing world of the Wrath and the dawn. It showed me, well more like reminded me why I loved Khalid and it just warmed my heart to the fact that in less than two months I will have the next book in my hands. It just gave me enough of an inside to his head to keep me just remembering how awesome he is 🙂

Besides it was free, can’t her better than that. So, my recommendation? Go get it. It’s wroth those 15 minutes.

Way Back Wednesday (#1) | Night By Elie Wiesel

Flashback time?

Way Back Wednesday is a Book Meme created by April at A Well Read Woman with the aim to write mini book reviews on books read in the past, that left a lasting impression. You know what kind of books I am talking about… The ones that you have read multiple times, and they still bring you nostalgia. Books like these are the reason you enjoy reading.

1617Night is a work by Elie Wiesel about his experience with his father in the Nazi German concentration camps at Auschwitz and Buchenwald in 1944–1945, at the height of the Holocaust and toward the end of the Second World War. In just over 100 pages of sparse and fragmented narrative, Wiesel writes about the death of God and his own increasing disgust with humanity, reflected in the inversion of the father–child relationship as his father declines to a helpless state and Wiesel becomes his resentful teenage caregiver.

Penetrating and powerful, as personal as The Diary Of Anne Frank, Nightawakens the shocking memory of evil at its absolute and carries with it the unforgettable message that this horror must never be allowed to happen again.

My Flashback to Night!

I picked this book because if a book has left a lasting experience in me is this one. I read this my senior year of high school, it wasn’t even in my reading list for that yeah but I remembered it once when I was at B&N and I picked it up right  before winter break. Intense 29 hours followed while I read this book.

I haven’t read it in years, and I know that if I read it now it will be a different experience that what I felt at 17; And that is one of the reasons I don’t want to do it. When I read it although I felt sorrow it gave me a certain surge of empowerment. I’ve been fascinated with everything Nazi and German since I read The Diary of Anne Frank but by the time senior year came I hadn’t read anything that described the treatment and cruelty so perfectly. Saying that , Night was a defined shock for me, it rocked my believes and it made acknowledge that I have power, even when my circumstances are the worst I think they’ll ever be. Even when I made some awful decisions, my resilience is the thing I have to focus on.

That’s how I remembered it. I know some friends who hated it and some loved it. I Loved it and it has a prized spot on my bookshelf

Have you read Night?

Review | Confess By Colleen Hoover

confessTittle: Confess

Author: Colleen Hoover

Length: 320 Pages

Series: N/A

Publisher: Atria Books

Published Date: March 1oth 2015

Gender:  Romance, New Adult & Contemporary

Rating: ★★★★ (4.5 OUT OF 5)

Format: Ebook

Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.
For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover Owen is keeping major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.
The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…

My Thoughts:

As it tends to happen (To me ) with all of colleen Hoovers books I usually read the blurb and I’m exited for it but I know that the blurb is not half as interesting as twisted (in the best way possible) as the book is going to be. That’s exactly what happened to me with confess; I read the blurb, I had my expectations but by the end of the prologue I was blown away yet again what is Colleen Hoover and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

“Are you here to save me?”

I have to be honest here, this book didn’t make me drown in tears like Ugly Love or Slammed, but it did broke my heart to then put together in away that was so subtle, so beautiful that I didn’t notice it when it was happening , it play with my emotions in a way that just Co-Ho can do.

We have Auburn Mason Reed, a girl who is fighting to get through her plans, she is alone and already lost one of the persons that meant the most to her in a way that was heartbreaking. All she wants is to work so she can afford the things she had to do in order to feel whole again. That’s when Confess comes into play, when she bumps into this building filled with what appears to be confessions of people and attached to this building is the help sign giving her a job that she didn’t mind loosing by end of the night because it let her to fun , talented, cute Owen Mason Gentry and Owen 🙂 and their connection was Sparkling fired from that moment. What she never suspected was that besides the secrets she kept and the confession he painted he had some of his own that could easily damage the only chance at getting her happily ever after she also didn’t understand how intertwined their past were.

This was a lot more different from the other books by the author, in my review of Ugly Love I mentioned how much more intense it is, grown up. This one goes on that line, but what makes it different is the fact that lots more people are interfering into the characters lives, more like Hopeless, and it was amazing to watch because at no point things felt forced, on the contrary it all flowed, it fit and worked to get the final result.

“She deserves better. So much better.
She deserves me.
If only she knew that.

I have loved all the couple she has written but Owen and Auburn are so special. Their connection man, was just beautiful and innocent and so strong that it was hard at moments to understand. It was romance that’s  for sure but it was not only that. Some books talk about growing up fast and the characters are still not were they need to be, with Owen and Auburn things were not like that, they each had a role , they each acted upon that and even thought some of their decisions and actions were not the best they pulled through and learned.

“I’m scared I’ll never feel this again with anyone else,” I whisper.
He squeezes my hands. “I’m scared you will.”

Something that I loved about the writing style was how much I cared for each and every one of the characters, so I wanted to punch and some I wanted to hug so tight, they way they were written it gave me a sample of how unique they are. Oh and to top it all off the art work guys! IT’S REAL. because writing beautiful books and beautiful characters is not enough we also need real things right? YEAH

“No one deserves you like I do.” …
“No one sees you like I do.” …
“No one understand you the way I do.” …
“No one makes your heart beat like I do.” …
He presses his palm against my heart. “And no one else deserves to be inside you if they can’t get there here first.”

To finish this of I’m just going to say this, Confess is not only a book. It’s an experience.

Movie Review: Still Alice

MV5BMjIzNzAxNjY1Nl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMDg4ODQxMzE@._V1_SX214_AL_Title: Still Alice

Release day: September 8th 2014

Director: Wash Westmoreland

Rating IMDb: 7.5 /10

My rating:  ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Gender: Drama

Duration: 101 Minutes

Dr. Alice Howland (Julianne Moore) is a renowned linguistics professor at Columbia University. When words begin to escape her and she starts becoming lost on her daily jogs, Alice must come face-to-face with a devastating diagnosis: early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. As the once-vibrant woman struggles to hang on to her sense of self for as long as possible, Alice’s three grown children must watch helplessly as their mother disappears more and more with each passing day.

My Review.

“My yesterdays are disappearing, and my tomorrows are uncertain, so what do I live for? I live for each day. I live in the moment. Some tomorrow soon, I’ll forget that I stood before you and gave this speech. But just because I’ll forget it some tomorrow doesn’t mean that I didn’t live every second of it today. I will forget today, but that doesn’t mean that today didn’t matter.”

Imagine have you life stripped away. The things you excelled at, the things you knew like the back of your hands gone. Imagine not remembering simple things, like tying your shoes or your home address. Not remembering yourself. That;s exactly what happened to Alice Howland when she was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s . And I can certainly see why Julianne Moore won an Oscar for this movie that’s based on the Book Still Alice By Lisa Genova.

Alice Howland was a Columbia U linguistic teacher, she was constantly giving out speeches about her book on the subject until she started noticing that things just slipped her mind: she couldn’t remember small words, she got disoriented in familiar places, she didn’t know what she had to teach in class… Things just kept adding up until she when to the neurologist and indeed she was diagnosed.

“… just because [butterflies’] lives were short didn’t mean they were tragic… See, they have a beautiful life.”

If you are looking for a happy ending , we-are-all-happy kind of movie, this is not the movie for you. But, if you are looking for something deep and meaningful and real , I’m 100% backing you to see this movie. To show us the other side of things , I would say, some scenes, especially with Kirsten Stewart were too much for me and my poor heart.

This movie was beautiful. It was so carefully crafted that it was painful to watch at times. The way it was so accurate , so truthful to the disease but never gross, it was heartbreaking but the most painful thing was how much you felt for Alice. Julianne Moore  performance was phenomenal, she broke my heart and she made me laugh and see life in a different way and she thought me that you have to hold on for as long as you can. Kirsten stewart was amazing. And Alec Baldwin, I loved him but … UGH! I understand why it happened.

images (2)

The cast , the interactions, the struggles felt real and true. I don’t know why it took me so long to watch , the fact that this movie gives us not usual caregiver perspective but the sick POV is not something we commonly see, neither is the fact that they are treating with a degrading disease, not something curable. As someone who has a very close relationship with Alzheimer’s this movie was spot on, they did spared us the little details of the diseases but addressed it in a way that was beautiful but haunting. By the end of the movie i was weeping like a child.

I can’t say a lot more, I’m getting teary eyes just writing this. All i can say is that what I’ve put into words is not perfect, it’s probably not very understandable but know that this movie is genius. It’s beautiful and has got to be the best movie I’ve seen from Julianne Moore.  And MY GOD! That last Scene.

“She almost thought she’d said the words aloud, but she hadn’t. They remained trapped in her head, but not because they were barricaded by plaques and tangles. She just couldn’t say them aloud”
