Red Queen | *Late* Review from a non-fantasy reader.

BEHOLD! Red Queen has arrive. and as usual I’m extremely late.

When I say this year started with an awesome book I’m not lying. AT all. I picked up Red

Red Queen | Published Feb 10, 2015.

Queen as a recommendation from a FB friend and to be honest I did not what to expect. But somehow the world Victoria created managed to lured me in until I had no say in the matter , and although pretty genetic, I fell completely in love with the characters.
Red queen is set into a world in which your status depends on the color of your blood (YES!) and there are only two of those; The Silvers, which were the elite and posses super powers and the ability to control the elements around them and then you had the Reds, who are the lower class making them basically into slave. Mare barrow who is a red to teh bone and has no other prospects than turning 18 and going into the Army until plans get mix up and she ends up working for the royal family as a servant. It’s not until a moment of fear that makes her and makes he unleash something she didn’t know she had. Now she’s not a red or a silver but something else, something new and more powerful. Something to fear. Living a double life she has to play the game she has to idea how to win.
The story line was very well written but I do have to say that it was confusing, The world building was lacking description and at times I felt lost. I think it could be because I couldn’t really understand in which category this book felt. I felt as if was jumping from historical fiction novel to a dystopian and then jumping back to fantasy and in a way it was that. It confined tons of elements from all of my favorite books making into something great. And I do have to say even if it doesn’t have the most original cast and plot I liked it.
Now rating it I’m conflicted, like I said it was well written and the story line entertaining but I just couldn’t stop myself from comparing this book to the hunger games, I.JUST. COULDN’T. and I guess some people have talked about the selection, book I haven’t read, but at the sometime it was different
Through out the story I found myself happy with the main characters choices which was a plus this AUTHOR killed me with her twists and I loved it. Red queen is a book that’s going to leave you guessing and wondering and you’ll love every second of it even if you feel like you read it before which is weird of me haha . I can’t wait for the next book.

Bottom line is this; red queen is light, entertaining, fast paced and confusing at time. It might take you a bit to get into it and you will probably feel like you have read this before. Now while saying this I have to point out that I enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to the next book and to know what the story hold but keep in mind that I I’m just getting into fantasy so the worlds and concepts are very new and entertaining to me.

Review | Confess By Colleen Hoover

Gender:  Romance, New Adult & Contemporary

Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.
For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover Owen is keeping major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.
The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…

My Thoughts:

As it tends to happen (To me ) with all of colleen Hoovers books I usually read the blurb and I’m exited for it but I know that the blurb is not half as interesting as twisted (in the best way possible) as the book is going to be. That’s exactly what happened to me with confess; I read the blurb, I had my expectations but by the end of the prologue I was blown away yet again what is Colleen Hoover and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

“Are you here to save me?”

I have to be honest here, this book didn’t make me drown in tears like Ugly Love or Slammed, but it did broke my heart to then put together in away that was so subtle, so beautiful that I didn’t notice it when it was happening , it play with my emotions in a way that just Co-Ho can do.

We have Auburn Mason Reed, a girl who is fighting to get through her plans, she is alone and already lost one of the persons that meant the most to her in a way that was heartbreaking. All she wants is to work so she can afford the things she had to do in order to feel whole again. That’s when Confess comes into play, when she bumps into this building filled with what appears to be confessions of people and attached to this building is the help sign giving her a job that she didn’t mind loosing by end of the night because it let her to fun , talented, cute Owen Mason Gentry and Owen 🙂 and their connection was Sparkling fired from that moment. What she never suspected was that besides the secrets she kept and the confession he painted he had some of his own that could easily damage the only chance at getting her happily ever after she also didn’t understand how intertwined their past were.

This was a lot more different from the other books by the author, in my review of Ugly Love I mentioned how much more intense it is, grown up. This one goes on that line, but what makes it different is the fact that lots more people are interfering into the characters lives, more like Hopeless, and it was amazing to watch because at no point things felt forced, on the contrary it all flowed, it fit and worked to get the final result.

“She deserves better. So much better.
She deserves me.
If only she knew that.

I have loved all the couple she has written but Owen and Auburn are so special. Their connection man, was just beautiful and innocent and so strong that it was hard at moments to understand. It was romance that’s  for sure but it was not only that. Some books talk about growing up fast and the characters are still not were they need to be, with Owen and Auburn things were not like that, they each had a role , they each acted upon that and even thought some of their decisions and actions were not the best they pulled through and learned.

“I’m scared I’ll never feel this again with anyone else,” I whisper.
He squeezes my hands. “I’m scared you will.”

Something that I loved about the writing style was how much I cared for each and every one of the characters, so I wanted to punch and some I wanted to hug so tight, they way they were written it gave me a sample of how unique they are. Oh and to top it all off the art work guys! IT’S REAL. because writing beautiful books and beautiful characters is not enough we also need real things right? YEAH

“No one deserves you like I do.” …
“No one sees you like I do.” …
“No one understand you the way I do.” …
“No one makes your heart beat like I do.” …
He presses his palm against my heart. “And no one else deserves to be inside you if they can’t get there here first.”

To finish this of I’m just going to say this, Confess is not only a book. It’s an experience.

Release day: September 8th 2014

Director: Wash Westmoreland

Rating IMDb: 7.5 /10

My rating:  ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Gender: Drama

Duration: 101 Minutes

Dr. Alice Howland (Julianne Moore) is a renowned linguistics professor at Columbia University. When words begin to escape her and she starts becoming lost on her daily jogs, Alice must come face-to-face with a devastating diagnosis: early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. As the once-vibrant woman struggles to hang on to her sense of self for as long as possible, Alice’s three grown children must watch helplessly as their mother disappears more and more with each passing day.

My Review.

“My yesterdays are disappearing, and my tomorrows are uncertain, so what do I live for? I live for each day. I live in the moment. Some tomorrow soon, I’ll forget that I stood before you and gave this speech. But just because I’ll forget it some tomorrow doesn’t mean that I didn’t live every second of it today. I will forget today, but that doesn’t mean that today didn’t matter.”

Imagine have you life stripped away. The things you excelled at, the things you knew like the back of your hands gone. Imagine not remembering simple things, like tying your shoes or your home address. Not remembering yourself. That;s exactly what happened to Alice Howland when she was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s . And I can certainly see why Julianne Moore won an Oscar for this movie that’s based on the Book Still Alice By Lisa Genova.

Alice Howland was a Columbia U linguistic teacher, she was constantly giving out speeches about her book on the subject until she started noticing that things just slipped her mind: she couldn’t remember small words, she got disoriented in familiar places, she didn’t know what she had to teach in class… Things just kept adding up until she when to the neurologist and indeed she was diagnosed.

“… just because [butterflies’] lives were short didn’t mean they were tragic… See, they have a beautiful life.”

If you are looking for a happy ending , we-are-all-happy kind of movie, this is not the movie for you. But, if you are looking for something deep and meaningful and real , I’m 100% backing you to see this movie. To show us the other side of things , I would say, some scenes, especially with Kirsten Stewart were too much for me and my poor heart.

images (3)

This movie was beautiful. It was so carefully crafted that it was painful to watch at times. The way it was so accurate , so truthful to the disease but never gross, it was heartbreaking but the most painful thing was how much you felt for Alice. Julianne Moore  performance was phenomenal, she broke my heart and she made me laugh and see life in a different way and she thought me that you have to hold on for as long as you can. Kirsten stewart was amazing. And Alec Baldwin, I loved him but … UGH! I understand why it happened.

images (2)

The cast , the interactions, the struggles felt real and true. I don’t know why it took me so long to watch , the fact that this movie gives us not usual caregiver perspective but the sick POV is not something we commonly see, neither is the fact that they are treating with a degrading disease, not something curable. As someone who has a very close relationship with Alzheimer’s this movie was spot on, they did spared us the little details of the diseases but addressed it in a way that was beautiful but haunting. By the end of the movie i was weeping like a child.

I can’t say a lot more, I’m getting teary eyes just writing this. All i can say is that what I’ve put into words is not perfect, it’s probably not very understandable but know that this movie is genius. It’s beautiful and has got to be the best movie I’ve seen from Julianne Moore.  And MY GOD! That last Scene.

“She almost thought she’d said the words aloud, but she hadn’t. They remained trapped in her head, but not because they were barricaded by plaques and tangles. She just couldn’t say them aloud”

Book Review: The Promise Of Amazing By Robin Constantine

Length: 371 Pages

Rating: ★★★.75( 3.75 OUT OF 5).

Wren Caswell is average. Ranked in the middle of her class at Sacred Heart, she’s not popular, but not a social misfit. Wren is the quiet, “good” girl who’s always done what she’s supposed to—only now in her junior year, this passive strategy is backfiring. She wants to change, but doesn’t know how.
Grayson Barrett was the king of St. Gabe’s. Star of the lacrosse team, top of his class, on a fast track to a brilliant future—until he was expelled for being a “term paper pimp.” Now Gray is in a downward spiral and needs to change, but doesn’t know how.
One fateful night their paths cross when Wren, working at her family’s Arthurian-themed catering hall, performs the Heimlich on Gray as he chokes on a cocktail weenie, saving his life literally and figuratively. What follows is the complicated, awkward, hilarious, and tender tale of two teens shedding their pasts, figuring out who they are—and falling in love.

My Review:

“I kept thinking of her eyes, the depths of them, the way she looked right into me, and I wasn’t afraid of what she’d find.”

Did I love it? ….ummm not sure.

Did I liked it a lot? Heck yes. ❤

I started with really high hopes with this one, The cover is super cute, the premise is Amazing but when it came to the book per se…. well it wasn’t what I expected (some times). After saving Grayson at a weeding Wren sees something in him that she can’t describe as does Grayson, These two start a friendship of sorts that soon becomes more, but while Wren things she has him figured out it’s not true; Because he is hiding something that can damage not only their relationship but his entire life. It’s a really sweet insta-young love. It’s a very fast paced book, and entertaining, It’s told from two POV (Wren and Grayson) so you get to see the whole thing playing out.

Wren was a great character, she was funny, she felt real and I really liked where she was at that point of her life (Perfect situation for disaster and greatness)  At that age that was me. Quite, applied and had great friends. If it was me in that situation things would have been the same, I mean I still go too crazy over boys, which brings us to Grayson.

Oh Grayson I was expecting so much more from him. He was the typical, hot, rich, problematic but smart guy trying to do good. He knows he’s cute and likable so he thinks he can get away with things, and he often does. But then he gets kicked out of his school for being a Test Pimp and all his future is going down the drain. Meanwhile Wren is working hard to get what she wants (Even if she has no idea what that is). He is trying very hard to just move on and face the reality that sometimes people are not there for you. It;s not only friends and school problems he has but family problems as well, specially with the secrets he’s hiding. I liked him and he has his moments most of the time.

The supporting characters where sunny and each had their own struggles, Even the ones you wanted to hate had something that pulled you in, some little insight as to why they might be like that, except Ava, all but Ava ( I really hate Ava) and that was one of my favorite things, because pretty much everyone has something good in them and Robin Constantine made sure you saw that.

For the most part it was cute and funny and relatable. My problem with it is that it fell too unreal  towards the end that’s the only reason I give a 3.75 (Which is not really a bad thing) It was good, the drama and the development but i just didn’t really agree with how quickly things got fixed,( I mean she forgave him pretty much the next day, and he didn’t even do anything to earn it. ) the rest was perfect, the love story I loved and the things that happen when so mysterious that you just wanted to know what was happening.

“That grin was pulling me into the deep end of the pool. The scary part, the part that made me search desperately for some other task I could lose myself in, was that there was a small, insistent voice urging me to dive right in.”

From Goodreads:

“Hi, I’m the guy who reads your e-mail, and also, I love you . . . “
Beth Fremont and Jennifer Scribner-Snyder know that somebody is monitoring their work e-mail. (Everybody in the newsroom knows. It’s company policy.) But they can’t quite bring themselves to take it seriously. They go on sending each other endless and endlessly hilarious e-mails, discussing every aspect of their personal lives.
Meanwhile, Lincoln O’Neill can’t believe this is his job now- reading other people’s e-mail. When he applied to be “internet security officer,” he pictured himself building firewalls and crushing hackers- not writing up a report every time a sports reporter forwards a dirty joke.
When Lincoln comes across Beth’s and Jennifer’s messages, he knows he should turn them in. But he can’t help being entertained-and captivated-by their stories.
By the time Lincoln realizes he’s falling for Beth, it’s way too late to introduce himself.

What would he say . . . ?

My Review:

I can’t be the only one who can see this been a movie right? It was visually amazing. It reminded me of I Got Mail meets When Harry Met Sally and those are two of my favorite movies. Can you say I loved this book? Don’t just say it, scream it! Shout it!

So attachments? Here we have Lincoln who couldn’t hate his job more if it was possible. He applied for an internet security job at a newspaper and ended up reading people’s emails on a daily basis at night. Talk about dreadful. Until he stumbles with Beth and Jennifer Emails. They are the highlight of his night, He should warn them their emails are being flagged but he doesn’t  ending up liking them. Specially Beth. But when information is given that left him speechless, he knows that his chances with her are now zero because of what he does. Can through email and love at first sight be real? Can they work?

I giggle. I giggle and giggle and giggle and laughed and blushed and was transported back to that time and I loved every minute of it. And Rainbow Rowell has done It again. Every time I read on of her books I end up the same, a giggling girl with red cheeks and wide eyes sitting at her Uni crushing a book to her chest like a crazy person. I am that person.

This book was light and cheery. It was funny and at the same time inspiring but most of all romantic. I mean can we talk about Lincoln? The massive, cute guy? The sweet, nerdy guy? The romantic and loyal guy? He was amazing. How about Beth? The funny, pretty girl?  The movie lover?  The tall girl with the pink pants?  The realistic and loyal friend? She was amazing too.

More than anything the book was real, even through all the romantic stuff. Most people go through that time when we don’t know what we want to be, or how we’ll get there. For some that last more, for other less. For Lincoln it was more. Finding that thing he was meant to do, finding the courage to step up and take what he wanted; took a while, but it felt so right when he did it. That’s what I like about this, the realization that life is not easy, that not all of us have large groups of friends to help us out but that the few we have are amazing, that not all of us have it all figure out, but that at the end of the day we are responsible for our choices and life’s and we should, even if it takes longer, take charge of it. ( At least that’s my take on it )

So after more giggling I’m happy and exited and it was, yet again, AMAZING!

  • “There are moments when you can’t believe something wonderful is happening. And there are moments when your entire consciousness is filled with knowing absolutely that something wonderful is happening.”
  • “I’d know you in the dark,” he said. “From a thousand miles away. There’s nothing you could become that I haven’t already fallen in love with.”
  • I pictured a girl who made every moment, everything she touched, and everyone around her feel lighter and sweeter.
“I pictured you,” he said. “I just didn’t know what you looked like.
“And then, when I did know what you looked like, you looked like the girl who was all those things. You looked like the girl I loved.”
  • “I don’t know if I even believe in that anymore. The right guy. The perfect guy. The one. I’ve lost faith in “the”.
How do you feel about “a” and “an”?
So you’re considering a life without articles?”

Best friends since they could walk.
In love since they were fourteen.
Complete strangers since this morning.
He’ll do anything to remember. She’ll do anything to forget.

My thoughts!

Okay. My brain. What is going on? Who is this possible?

I’ve had this book on my I pad for a week now, and today was the day I put on my big girl panties and read it. And now I’m just…Ughhh! I need the ending? NOW!

Now, with the review. After sitting in bed for 30 minutes starring at the cover and trying to think of a way to describe this…book.

I am a big Co-ho Fan, though I’ve never read anything by Tarry Fisher. This book is so complicated, if you were to ask me what gender this is, I couldn’t tell you, Is it YA? Is it romance? Is it paranormal? Is It mystery?  I just don’t know. I felt as if they took all of those gender put them in a bowl and somehow made a decadent Chocolate cake. Or Ezras grilled cheese J

It was nothing like I expected. And I didn’t know what to expect to giving with , given that in all the reviews I’ve read people are as confuse as I felt. I just now it worked. I was anxious with the last part, because people were freaking out about the cliffhanger but I never, NEVER would have thought THAT WAS IT!  It killed me. I literally face planted my bed and screamed for about 30 seconds after those last words. I was surprise, again, at how funny it could be, how sensual it was given their circumstances.

Throughout the book we get to see Silas and Charlies POV. I honestly didn’t know who wrote with part, Colleen or Tarryn but both of them were Amaze-balls. When I found out who did who I was so happy. Colleen hoover just has a way of writing male characters ( Like Miles! Like Holder! Like Will!) That you just have to fall in love. Even with everything that was going on I loved Silas. And with Charlie! Man I felt her frustration, her panic, everything.

Anyways, I really thing you guys should read this book. It’s so different and although I would have prefer 1 book instead of 2 I’m happy and thinking about it. For shock value? It was so worth it!

“I’m Tetris Silas. All my pieces and parts are going to fit into all of your pieces and parts.

“You think you can make me like you again?”
I look over at her and give my head the slightest shake. “No. I’m gonna make you fall in love with me again.”

“Everything about her is captivating, like the aftermath of a storm. People aren’t supposed to get pleasure out of the destruction Mother Nature is capable of, but we want to stare anyway. Charlie is the devastation left in the wake of a tornado.”

When Warren has the opportunity to live with a female roommate, he instantly agrees. It could be an exciting change.
Or maybe not.
Especially when that roommate is the cold and seemingly calculating Bridgette. Tensions run high and tempers flare as the two can hardly stand to be in the same room together. But Warren has a theory about Bridgette: anyone who can hate with that much passion should also have the capability to love with that much passion. And he wants to be the one to test this theory.
Will Bridgette find it in herself to warm her heart to Warren and finally learn to love?
Maybe not.

My Thougths

“You have to be honest with me, because I think you might be in love with her and I need you to tell me you’re not, because I think I might want to kiss her. And touch her. A lot. Like, everywhere.”

O.M.G. Is it hot in here?

Oh no, it’s just Warren that heat up the air. If you’ve read Maybe Someday ( CLICK! I just posted a review on it last week) You probably already liked Warren.True, he could be kind of a jerk sometimes but the times he was funny or a total sweetheart and considered outnumber those few conversations were you wanted to smack his hear against the wall. In Maybe Not, he just stole my heart. Maybe Not happens at the same time things are happening in Maybe someday and you get to see part of the story form a different angle. It is solemnly from Warrens point of view and man was he complicated character.

The only difference between falling in love and being in love is that your heart already knows how you feel, but your mind is too stubborn to admit it.”

Warren is only living with Ridge and Brennan , his best friends, but when Brennan brings a girl who could or couldn’t be the daughter Satan , she is evil, he doesn’t like her. Until he walks on her in their shared bathroom and then he loves her. He doesn’t understand how Bridgette could be so evil and he still find her interesting and gorgeous – He thinks is all the tan skin. but there are more things happening in Bridgette life and he somehow wants to make things right for her. Only problem is that she is one though cookie-A though cookie he intends to break and eat later.

“She’s nothing I’ve ever wanted in a girl. And absolutely everything I need.”

I loved this book, it was different from Maybe someday, a lot more sexual and explicit but it’s equally as great. I think it made for a perfect companion book and explained A LOT about Bridgette  and I finally ended liking her 🙂

“I need her to admit that there’s an actual heart inside her chest. And that sometimes it beats for me.”

So this is yet another book I would totally suggest you read, you don’t  necessarily need to read Maybe Someday but I would suggest you do, besides is only 129 pages, I read it in about an hour

That was all 🙂 Let me know if have or are reading this book 🙂

The book

Tessa Gray should be happy—aren’t all brides happy? Yet as she prepares for her wedding, a net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute. A new demon appears, one linked by blood and secrecy to Mortmain, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. Mortmain needs only one last item to complete his plan. He needs Tessa. And Jem and Will, the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa’s heart, will do anything to save her.

My thoughts

“I am catastrophically in love with you.”

The final installment of The Infernal Devices and it couldn’t have been more perfect than this. For me reading this trilogy has been a long journey this year and I can really say that im sad to have finish it but at the same time im glad and happy to have these characters as part of my life now. It was the kind of book that I couldn’t seem to finish, not because I didn’t like it but because I liked it too much and I didn’t want it to finish. But as my Mom says, All good things must come to an end. It was beautiful and heartbreaking and much more than I expected and my eyes are still watering whenever i think of the end of this book – OH WILL!

On ClockWork Princess, we are still following the story of Tessa, Jem and Will. But things get more that complicated with Mortmain and the Shadownhunters and with Tessa’s feelings towards Will and Jem. I love the fact that we get more in-dept with everyone’s feelings and we get to know more Shadowhunters – That honestly stole my heart.

In this book everything I thought and everyone I thought I liked and disliked changed. Gabriel, Gideon, Jessemine, Cecily , Sophie just to name a few made such an impact in the story. We got to see some shady behavior from the council and we got to fight disgusting monsters and demons. But it was also more deep than the previous books, Clockwork Angel and Clockwork Prince. The characters get to a point were they’ve reached their full development, and the petty things that were important before don’t matter that much when they are faced with the life of the people they love.

The most important thing I saw here was the progress of Jem and Tessa and Will’s relationship. I think it was so mature so caring they way they loved each other and how loyal they were and I think the ending of the book was perfect and I still feel my heart beating at the last couple of chapters. It was sad, but it was real, in  the way Tessa is going to live her life. It was funny and real and loveable and I need this in my life.

The supporting characters and the parallel story were on point and if I had to choose a favorite couple, that was not Will and Tessa, I would pick Sophie and Gideon  It was very good written and now I feel like I should continue on my Mortal Instruments books, because I have a feeling my favorite people will be there.

Just go a head add this trilogy to you TBR list you wont be disappointed at all. ❤

Music Monday (#4): I’m in Trouble and Maybe Someday.

Hello ❤

Today is Monday. If you haven’t noticed and I think Mondays suck. They should be erased and never should have been created. But since there’s nothing I can do about it I don’t have another choice other that to face it with as much grace as I can. And since music makes me feel graceful , I’m doing Music Monday which is a meme Hosted By Total Book Geek. All you have to do is the following:

  • Choose a book or a scene from a book.
  • Choose a song that fits said book or scene.
  • Tell us why you paired them together.
  • Don’t forget to share the title and author.
  • Be careful not to include spoilers!

Some of you might be tire of me only posting about Maybe Someday and how good of a book it was. And it’s true. But what I found to be extra great about this book was that it came with a complementary soundtrack. Yes. Soundtrack. That is one of the best things about this, that you can feel everything so much more and feel like you’re right there. I could pick and post every song of this CD , but the one I’m choosing is I’m in trouble. Most of my favorite scenes were the ones where Ridge was being funny and cute and that usually implied some sort of flirting going on with Sydney. so because of all those scenes that made laugh and all those flaws they had, I’m choosing that song.
