Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper’s destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.
Just when life can’t get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she’s charged to protect: David Stark, school reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper’s least favorite person. But things get complicated when Harper starts falling for him—and discovers that David’s own fate could very well be to destroy Earth.
With snappy banter, cotillion dresses, non-stop action and a touch of magic, this new young adult series from bestseller Rachel Hawkins is going to make y’all beg for more.
Harper price has it all. Perfect boyfriend? CHECK. Homecoming queen?CHECK. Perfect BFF? CHECK. Head cheerleader? CHECK. Perfect lip-gloss for homecoming…? not so much.
Everything is perfect for Lee High queen, until the moment she forgets to pack her lip-gloss on Homecoming night and she has to rush to the bathroom, the place where her whole future changed. Now, after some really random and weird stuff when down in her school bathroom, she finds that things might have to be rearranged.
The part that has her freaking out, is David Stark. annoying hipster, freakishly smart and her only competition for Valedictorian, David Stark is her nemesis and the only person who has ever made Harper Price lose her cool. Now she has to figure out what she is and how is that going to fit it in her carefully planned life, IF i can , and the only person who she can trust and believe is David. Now with the most important night of her life looming over, Cotillion, the night she had always dreamed of but now has a different meaning, she must act fast to save herself and everyone she cares about. I felt identified with her, i know we all love this great heroine, that want to fight and take charge but in reality how many of us would really do that? and Harper was very vocal about what she wanted.
David was awkward and a 17-year-old guy to the bone, but he was a really great Male hero.
He shook his head, like he was trying to clear it.”Now that i know, i really, really don’t want to die”
SPOILER! Now want I didn’t like and found unnecessary was the love triangle. I hate love triangles and I am pretty sure Twilight made sure if that.
This book is filled so fun dialog , packed with Homecoming-queen-pink-heel- action , cute guys and really historical background. DO NOT BE DECEIVED! The cover so fulled me into thinking this was going to be a cute, plain love story but oh no, it is far from it.(well, not really) Harper and David were amazing together and so cute. I get that some people might have a problem with the writing style of this book, is really teenage diary type of thing but that was what made me love it even more. I felt as if she was right there talking to me and it was great. Notice: it leaves you with clif hanger, not too bad, but i am really looking forward to read the second book.
