My *realistic* Goodreads goals

Seeing as we are almost done with the first month of 2017 I thought it was fitting for me to set my Goodreads goals, And I’m glad I did it because a lot changed from 2016 to this year. Some of the things I plan to do this year is and that I’ve done is to set realistic goals, things that I just know I can accomplish and then once accomplished push a bit further.

Into these goals will go the amount of books I will hopefully read since Last year I read a whooping total of 7 BOOKS! yay (not really) and like mentioned on my friday post () I’m done forcing myself to read more that I’m willing and I’m putting pleasure over quantity.
So I’ve divided my goals in a few parts, bear with me as I try to explain them to myself:

  • Amount: My goal is to read 25 books this year, small goal that if accomplished will be very exciting and if exceed thrilling. This year will hold a lot of changes in my life , grad school and a new state are probably going to put a dent on anything larger than that so that’s my goal on the reading department.
  • Money; I also set a budged for book , and that my friends is a first. I wont spend more that 20-30 dollars a month (If that) on books. I’ve made the bad habit of over spending on books and I realized at the beginning of this year that my room holds more unread books than read and I have to deal with it somehow. and the only way of dealign with it is by reading them right? haha oh logic does great things to my plans when its 3 am and I’m reorganizing my room.
  • Variarity: While doing that deed reorganization i realized that mainly I’ve been reading away too much contemporary and so i decided that branching out are a most. So soon ill be making a list of books from different genres that i just have to read AND RE-READ (I’m looking at you Withering heights!)
  • Writing : Although not a “reading” goal, ill just add it here for accountability. Since I’ll be moving and I won’ t know ANYONE there I figure I will have a time to spare, I will take u writing once more and hopefully put this thoughts into paper.

2017 will be a great year in all aspects of my life (Fingers crossed) and I can’t wait to set this goals on motion. What are your reading goals? Or any goals you will try to reach this year?

Red Queen | *Late* Review from a non-fantasy reader.

BEHOLD! Red Queen has arrive. and as usual I’m extremely late.

When I say this year started with an awesome book I’m not lying. AT all. I picked up Red

red_queen_book_cover

Red Queen | Published Feb 10, 2015.

Queen as a recommendation from a FB friend and to be honest I did not what to expect. But somehow the world Victoria created managed to lured me in until I had no say in the matter , and although pretty genetic, I fell completely in love with the characters.
Red queen is set into a world in which your status depends on the color of your blood (YES!) and there are only two of those; The Silvers, which were the elite and posses super powers and the ability to control the elements around them and then you had the Reds, who are the lower class making them basically into slave. Mare barrow who is a red to teh bone and has no other prospects than turning 18 and going into the Army until plans get mix up and she ends up working for the royal family as a servant. It’s not until a moment of fear that makes her and makes he unleash something she didn’t know she had. Now she’s not a red or a silver but something else, something new and more powerful. Something to fear. Living a double life she has to play the game she has to idea how to win.
The story line was very well written but I do have to say that it was confusing, The world building was lacking description and at times I felt lost. I think it could be because I couldn’t really understand in which category this book felt. I felt as if was jumping from historical fiction novel to a dystopian and then jumping back to fantasy and in a way it was that. It confined tons of elements from all of my favorite books making into something great. And I do have to say even if it doesn’t have the most original cast and plot I liked it.
Now rating it I’m conflicted, like I said it was well written and the story line entertaining but I just couldn’t stop myself from comparing this book to the hunger games, I.JUST. COULDN’T. and I guess some people have talked about the selection, book I haven’t read, but at the sometime it was different
Through out the story I found myself happy with the main characters choices which was a plus this AUTHOR killed me with her twists and I loved it. Red queen is a book that’s going to leave you guessing and wondering and you’ll love every second of it even if you feel like you read it before which is weird of me haha . I can’t wait for the next book.

Bottom line is this; red queen is light, entertaining, fast paced and confusing at time. It might take you a bit to get into it and you will probably feel like you have read this before. Now while saying this I have to point out that I enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to the next book and to know what the story hold but keep in mind that I I’m just getting into fantasy so the worlds and concepts are very new and entertaining to me.

Epiphanies and reading slump | Chatty Fridays!

logo-intro2x

Reading slumps.
Ive been thinking a lot about them and the reason why I’ve been constantly getting them. And not only thinking about them but experiencing one, the worst one of my entire life but something happened, sort of an epiphany if you will and that  (Wait for it bookworms!) It’s okay not to read sometimes! yes I said it.
I am aware that this a estrange statement to make, specially if you love reading and getting pulled into unimaginable worlds and lifes but I also feel is one that is so obvious that I’ve entirely missed it.

I was never very prone to getting slumps and when I got them I would just shake them off by switching books or just taking a two day break from reading; that my friends? THAT has drastically changed in the past year. I’m not (Sort of) ashamed to say that I’ve been on a reading slump for a total of 14 months (yes that IS a year and and two months)
I haven’t read more than 10 books since 2015 and nothing and I mean NOTHING has inspired me to read beyond a couple of pages. I want to say that it has only affected my reading but this has impacted my writing and blogging resulting on me beating myself down for it
I’ve gone to the point of even questioning if I actually enjoy reading anymore and it doesn’t help that I’ve been telling myself that I have to suck it up it and force myself to pick up another book, to read another blog.

“I HAVE TO” do this has been my mind set.

Beginning of January. I was watching tv and my mom sits next to me picking up a book on my desk and she asks me (As concern as mother can be) “ Are you okay? you haven’t been reading anything since you got home.” I took a moment to answer and I just couldn’t find one thing to say. And that is when it finally hit me. the light at the end of the , the angelic chorus awaiting my entrance, The answer to my year long slump. My epiphany.
That simple question led me to an end of months of feeling so out of place with my reading. I realized that I DON’T HAVE to read more that I WANT to read.
Hear me out here, there is a big difference here “Having to” implies that someone is counting on me and that I’ve been seeing books as a chore instead of how they are really meant to be, *hint hint* Pleasure! I realized that yeah, I haven’t picked up a book in who knows how long but that is okay. Taking a break is great; doing what my heart is telling me is Amazing *Sparks*.
For some people that is an obvious concept but sometimes we don’t see the obvious things. We want to complicate them, twist them and make them into something they’re not.
So dear fellow reader Long story short, since I realized that I’ve been slowly but shortly getting back into the way of things. I’ve been reading the same book for two weeks now but thats okay; Soon I’ll finish it and eventually get back into my roll of reading, could be two books a weeks, five, seven or none and I’ll try to be fine with it.
So if you’re struggling with it, remember to just give it time. I can’t tell you how to get out the funk because I wouldn’t know seeing I’m still in the mist of one. Just remember to take this is as a journey of sorts; One in which we have to figure out on our own and realize that it’s one that wont last forever.
Because nothing lasts forever.

If you have experience with reading slumps , feel welcome to guide us out of it hahahaha

A nostalgic goodbye |2016

As another ball drops and we start getting ready to step into another year ,I have started to get nostalgic. The trend for every new year is making plans; promises to oneself that usually get forgotten by the time march comes around, I’m one of those. I make plans every year and fail, miserably, to go through with them. That’s why instead of making unreachable goals I’ve decided to look back into my year and see what went wrong (And who badly)

2016 was meant to be MY year, as most of us assumed. And I’m shocked to say that it ended completely different from how I imagined. To say the least this year was..hard. sitting here thinking back to this year its a bit of a tough pill to swallow; I’m ashamed and confused and sometimes I even cry.

With one more year under the belt I can safely say that boy have I learned; Between risking my health multiple times and falling in love And (OF COURSE) getting my heart and hopes crushed by a man whom I thought was the love of my life and making horrible choices

When it comes to life decisions I’m the last person who should give advice so here I write the things I want to remember everyday, a few of them at least.

1-Don’t plan your life around someone, easy one right? Just don’t. Be and do what you want. The right one will follow along or come into the picture at some point.

2- Follow your passion; Thats the only thing that you will have left when your friends go home.

3- Meet people; never stop yourself from meeting new people who will change your life.

4- Be yourself. People like genuine people, be one.

5- Call, reach out. Be that annoying person who tells everyone how much they mean to you.

6- Be kind, it will never go out of style.

7- Listen to your mom and sister. They TRULY know best, stop being a little idiot and open those ears.

8- Unfollow; all that negativity is not good. separate yourself from the people who don’t help you grow and who just meant something for you before but not anymore.

9- You wont die from a broken heart. Everyone has one  and you won’t be alone forever. Remember the nice moments but don’t live in the past, there are better people in life.

10- Keep Jesus first, I know this might not apply to every one but since this are my life lessons this is by far the most important. HE is everything. don’t forget that.

Life is hard. we all go through things that leave us in tears and doubt but we can never doubt that there is point to this. ALL.  What we need to remember is that we have to be good and love. We have to show compassion and kindness.

A few hours way from 2017 i don’t have many expectations but to be true to my self . Honesty in my character and hopefully I will get done the things I get done. Of course plans are important but character is even more. Character and God.

Have a great new year and be safe guys. 2017 deserves out best. 🙂

GoodReads: WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

So I finished this book and I’ve wonder why? not in the sense of not liking it but in the sense of why didn’t I read this years ago.

I’m sure all of you have either read or seen this book by Laini Taylor, it’s the first book on a trilogy ( Don’t vote me on that) and it was published years ago. I’ve gone time and time again to the books store and seen it but to b honest Ive always felt little intimidated by the cover. I’t so beautiful and i felt as if I wasn’t prepared, but a week ago I decided that it was time and I’m glad I did.

The story is around a girl name Karou who lives in Prague. She’s 17 years old and an art student at an art academy but she also lives a life of mystery. She doesn’t remember anything of her past, she has no recollection of her parents or he life as a little kid all she remembers is Brimstone, who is not exactly human… far from it really, but even after years of living with and seeing their friends she knows there is a lot she doesn’t know about him and his life in the shadows or the dangerous missions he sends her into , he still the only family she knows and she loves him.

Her two worlds are always colliding, between her wanting to be and do things with her best friend but at the same time knowing she can exactly share her life with the people around her and follow her duty.

Magical hand prints are appearing into portal that connect her to Brimstone all around the world and is not until caos reigns that she starts to uncover what really is going on behind those door. And how Akive, the boy who is following her played apart in who she is.

I was a little thrown off with some of the descriptions of the characters just because it was so different from any angel/demon story I’ve ever read,(or my lack if the really) but surprise in a good way. I will say the encounters between Karou and Akive where what I looked forward the most. They both had a solid background story an edit was just so interesting to me to read about them.

Now, for the part i didn’t like so much. I didn’t really ilk how the flashbacks where so long, and descriptive. I do know that without them we wouldn’t have any back\ground or information and that they are necessary but if they would’ve been little shorter of more spread out between past and present I would  have enjoyed it more. but the whole one present chapter and 5 in the past at the end i felt was too much. still just a minor thing really when compared to everything else that happened here.

All in al I give this book a 4 stars. i enjoyed the characters, the interaction and just the whole execution of the idea. Beautiful throughout. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to spice things up a bit. and I can’t wait to read the other two books in the series.

HAVE YOU GUYS READ IT? if so tell me what you though of it guys.

GoodReads: WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

I have a feeling this is one of those book that people either really enjoy or dislike immediately.  I believe I fall into the enjoying category for sure, I have to say the reason why is because it has been a while since a book caught me completely by surprise. And when I say that i’m not exaggerating, I mena it, since page one and the introduction I was wondering about the next scheme or the next hilarious piece of dialog and every time Jana Aston delivered.

The story follows Everly (Beverly is her real name) in her quest to make the love of her life realize that she is the perfect woman for him. she has it all figure out and her plans are foolproof, for the most part. She usually drags along her best friend Chloe and everything is met with a great defiance. But things take a weird turn when she meets the one person who is not even shocked by her but encourages her instead. Making her question if her true purpose is as she imagined. It goes long the lines of twisting up her “happily ever after” and punch you in the face with something different.

Any man worthy of you would work for it, Everly. Not sit by passively while you did all”

The fact that Everly was such a dinamite was the thing that kept the whole thing interesting and also the reason some people might not like this book. She is loud, can be obnoxious, self centered (Some times) nosey, delusional, bossy and pretty much lives on dream land. There is not a once of sense going through her head. But that recklessness was what made it super refreshing. She didn’t cry over things when they didn’t happen, she moved on and became the person she wanted to be.she had a plan but that didn’t stop her from having the best life she could have. she socialized  she flirted and she was so confident of herself that it was just the cherrie on top. and she took things she wanted while also working her ass off. and the fact that they place her with that male character took it over the edge.

Sparks do not fly. Chills do not run through my body. I do not suddenly recognize this man as my soulmate based on a handshake. Such bullshit. His hand is nice though. Firm, large. His thumb caresses the back of my hand and fine, that touch alone is enough to make me recognize that he’s probably good in bed. But that’s it.”

This is a fun read but I have to warn you that this book is not one  of those books where there will be tears from how much the story changed you. But it’s a book that makes you see that in life we have to take the opportunities that present to us and forget about the ideal life we want, we just have to enjoy what we have. I felt like I was on a sugar and Redbull high throughout this whole story and i thank Everly for it. and for those super sexy intense scenes that oh my lord (Where’s the fan!)

Story short, read it if you like hype and delusional characters who will make you laugh and see life in a deferent light.

Is it MAY TBR time already!? No way!

I might be one of those people who just thinks the year is going by way to fast, I’m sorry if I am and if I’m constantly repeating that, but man, it is going insanely fast. which means that is TBR time. If you know something about me is that I hate TBRs but I’ve come to the realization that I own too many books and I haven’t touch them so for me to get to them before 2017 I have to speed up the process.

Goodreads Summary

I’ve been a major fan of Colleen Hoover ever since I picked up Slammed years ago. But even as a fan her book have been causing this slight heartache as I read them that slowly drive me crazy but make fall in love with each and everyone of her books. There was no exception with November 9 , I realized that as I played in bed either giggling like a school girl, laughing out loud, signing at every cute thing or crying my eyes out.

“Whoever said the truth hurts was being an optimist. The truth is an excruciatingly son of a bitch”

The book doesn’t fail to pull at  your heart and throwing you around. It builds up and up and up and you see that there is something coming (Because with COHO there’s always something coming )and whatever you have imagine is going to happen? Doesn’t happen because she can either trow you for a huge loop  and destroy your heart or flip the tables and make you love life once more.

“I Thought i was tougher than a word”

I’m pretty sure that is the reason we keep coming back tot her books. This contemporary love story that is  unique and even through the bizarre plot line you just keep coming back for more. Because for some reason even if the story is not realistic at all (or many be who knows) she makes us believe, that as readers, this could happen and that you will find you Ben “The Writer ” at the next cafe.

“I think she expected em to let her go without a fight, but she’s not the kind of girl you choose your battles for. She’s the kind of girl you fight to death for”

Fallon and Ben are such a good characters, they are relatable, they are confused and raw but also very  dreamy in that way only teenage can be sometimes (well, maybe we all  can be) The story was for hard on them and some how after all they went through they still managed to pull through and grow up and specially accept what happened. They learned from what happened and they tried to live they’re life.

“Love should be between two people, and if it isn’t, I’d rather bow out than take part in the race”

Now is this my favorite CoHo Book, I can’t say that. But it was amazing. Once more she has done it and I couldn’t be happier that I finally made myself go through the pain to receive the awesome reward at the end. The fact that it was set up on one specific day each year for that amount of time was so much fun to read and to be honest made the book extremely fast paced, which I enjoyed a lot. Mix that with the amazing writing and you get that an amazing result.

A Christmas from hell By RL Mathewson| Another food story.

27742535Tittle: A Christmas From Hell

Series: Neighbors from hell

Publisher: Smashwords Edition

Gender: Romance & Fiction

Rating: ★★★ (3 OUT OF 5)

GoodReads summary  😀

I don’t know if you’re many familiar with R L Mathewson’s books but if you don’t here is what you should know about them. She is the author of the Neighbors from hell series and there are already 7 books out (Book 1  review), A christmas from hell is that seventh one and they are super funny and kind of sexy.

In a christmas from hell we have Duncan, one half of theBradford twins. He is supposed to be the nice one, the reliable, the one everyone can count on and he likes it that way. He likes to think of himself as a hero, which is why he works as a firefighter. But all that heroism goes down the drain when Necie moves in next door with her grandfather and is constantly “Unintentionally ” getting in his way and sending him to the hospital.

All she wants is to help her grandfather and run her part of the family bakery after quitting her old job and deciding that it was for the best. But she didn’t count on meeting super hot Duncan Bradford. Whom she is always hurting and is totally “in love” with him.

So as far as NFH novels go, I can’t say that it was my favorite. Did I enjoy it? yes I did. Because the thing with the NFH is that you can sort know what to expect, which depending on your taste can be good or bad. They are, like I just said, expected, you buy this book and if you read the other ones you know you’ll get your doses of Bradford alpha male moves, sweet moments, fights, ban restaurants and food. Tons of foods. and usually very cute moments between the main character. This book is funny and entertaining but the reason I down graded my rating from a 4 to 3 was because I felt this book dragged on after the second half. I don know if its because I’m used to her previous fast paced, hilarious books but this one for me was kind of… slow. But equally funny.

Duncan and Necie were super cute and I really liked her and made me want to bake cupcakes. ASAP. And my love for firefighters has grown once again. aww, so many memories ah

So, the question is,Would I recommend this book? yes. But read the other once first so you’re set to embark into the Bradford weirdly food obsessed books.
